Portfolio Material

Since my portfolio site is on / off all the time I thought it would be a good idea to add my portfolio work here. Over the years I've done quite a bit of different projects, but mostly I've been a 3D Generalist in my professional career. All  my portfolio work is projects I've done in my spare time and each one has a specific goal I wanted to accomplish.

The first project I will be discussing is my UDK Cathedral, this project took a couple weeks from start to finish. My objective was to create something realistic with some fantasy elements, another goal was to fine tune my modular workflow. I really enjoyed working on this level, not only was I able to refine my modular workflow I was able to get better at lighting and materials within UDK.

My next project I completed was especially fun, Skyrims Creation Kit was recently released at the time and well I wanted to create my own weapons. First I designed a couple weapons, I mush have drew about 5 - 8 pages of thumbnails before I decided on two silhouettes. Once I choose the silhouettes I then further refined them on paper, blocked in details and made little notes so I wouldn't waste any time. I began in Autodesk Maya blocking out the weapons then further refined and optimized the mesh before I started the UV's. These weapons were hand painted in Photoshop then taken into the creation kit. At the time I recorded the process and posted it on you-tube, plenty of people wanted to create weapons or do simple things with the editor, but at the time there wasn't enough info on it.

Recently I decided to create a working Magnum, I started the model a while back, but recently got the chance to finish it. The whole process took roughly 6 hours, from low poly, high poly, uvs, texturing and the final render. I must admit the texturing of the model took a little longer than I wanted, It's something I needed to improve on.

Lastly I really wanted to get back into traditional rendering techniques, I didn't want to start anything too big and never get the time to finish it. I choose to make two bikes from references, the whole process took less than 6 hours for each bike.

  1. Nice Bike, also the gun textures look really good. Do you have an example of your diffuse/bump/spec?
